John has been playing the pipes since he joined the Humberside Army Cadet Force Band at the age of 12. He went on to join the C.R.S Pipe Band in Hull, then helped to form the Kingstown Scottish Pipe Band in 1991.
Later that year John joined the Black Watch RHR Pipe Band where he received first rate tuition and the chance to travel the world playing at some outstanding venues and events including The Hong Kong Rugby Sevens, The World Pipe Band Championships in Jakarta and The Royal Albert Hall to name just a few.
After leaving the forces he joined the Reading Pipe Band, then moved back home to Hull and re-joined the Kingstown
